I was in my local computer shop yesterday where they have a limited suppy of candy for reasons unknown. I thought I’d buy a nickel candy bar, til I saw the price…$2.19.
A computer geek friend tells the tale of an international computer confrence; programers from 10 different countries, not a language in common. And what did they all ask for to drink? Diet Coke!
i remember when a BK Whopper was 10 inches in diameter and completely filled the plate, and they actually bragged that ’it took 2 hands to handle a Whopper" it was so huge.McDonalds hamburgers: 29 cents apiece, guaranteed to never go up in price. riiiiiiight…..
“Pep” bars were a nickle. I discovered penny candy and BLACK jawbreakers at age 6. But had to ask a fourth grader to walk me to the store across from school. (always asked the boys, the girls were b$tches). Pixie sticks were powdered sugar and a classroom of buzzed kids.
As a kid I can remember we used to get Triple Cola because it was 16 oz. for your dime- uuurp! And my mom and aunts sending me up the street with a guarter and a nickel to get them a pack of smokes from the coin machine at the gas station- with three pennies change inside the wrapper (1950s, NJ shore, SUMMERTIME).
@momazilla- It ain’t the @#$%& typos; it’s the @#$%& ancient eyeballs and fingers that refuse to work like the ancient brain wants them to. (Why’d you skip the ^ in the cryptic cuss?)

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a candy bar priced at a nickel. I’m not quite that old.

This is starting to sound like the Old Folks Home. All we need is Charlie Weaver telling us stories about Mt. Idy.

In my day, the “fun sized” bars sold for two cents each!

… And a “five and ten” store sold junk for 5 to 10 CENTS, not dollars…

During WW II we didn’t see much candy. Every thing was hard to get unless you grew it.

Anybody, besides me, remember when a cup of coffee was a nickle? It went to a dime because sugar went up in price.
