I apparently sucked my thumb beyond the acceptable norm, so my mom would put a small drop of tobasco sauce on it. Cured me in no time. It took me a couple decades to like it in food again. I do subscribe to the belly button/legs falling off bit though.
When my sister was 3 and a thumb sucker, we told her the “it will fall off line” she didn’t listen, so dad brought her over to the neighbour who had lost his thumb in a construction job. He told her it was from thumb sucking, she never sucked it again!
I was told by my mother and relatives that if I didn’t stop biting my fingernails, I’d have to have my fingers cut off or I’d have deformed fingers. But I kept biting them, Then when I was 19, I just quit. I now have longer nails thands to NutraNail.
I was a terrible thumb sucker right up until I was 5. I knew I should not, but I would wake up in the morning with my thumb in my mouth. When I started kindergarten, the school nurse counselled me to fold my hands together and tuck my thumbs inside when I went to bed. Remarkably, that did the trick.
I have two kids now adults. Our son is the oldest never sucked his thumb; whereas his sister did and so did her friend. I always knew when nap time came for my little girl, thumb in her mouth eyes lids very dark. I never had to rock her. When she got older. I explained to her and her friend you two are big girls now and Big K is coming do you want to look foolish with sucking your thumb. Actually I told my daughter long before she went to preschool. This ended her thumb sucking. I also told both of them you teeth will be bad and need braces. Her friend would sneak to continue suck her thumb my daughter did actually quite.My sister did hers not sure if I did mine but sure affected my mouth.Then what amazed me at a Walmart store there is this family both girls. One younger standing in a shopping cart one older close to 19 sitting with her thumb in her mouth. All are black. I told the mom about her daughter could get hurt in cart, then I said to the mom her daughter is to old for thumb sucking at that age, and I also said I am paying customer and needed to try on shoes, that I cannot stand and try them on bad balance if she would have her daughter move so I could sit down. I had the shoes in my hands. The daughter did as her mother told her to get up. There is at that time a older worker there. After this family left the worker said they cannot tell a customer that and was well I spoke up.
The only problem with sucking anything too long would be crooked teeth. but I sucked my thumb between my first two fingers- half a fist in my mouth- for a long time and my teeth are fine.

My daughter sucked her thumb till it was flat. Was savedher – and me – was that she got those water-like bubbleson it and that stopped her cold. Phew! And her thumbfound its original shape in a few weeks :)
