"How's Lyle?" "Better than Elvis, Mozart and the Ramones!" "Your guinea pig Lyle, not Lyle Lovett." "Him, too." "I'm amazed guinea pigs can figure out those upside-down water bottle things." "How so?" "Well, you'd think in the wild they drink water off the ground." "Wild guinea pigs?" "So how does it occur to them to look upward for water?" "Ooh, good question." "Maybe they knew to drink from wet leaves overhead after a rain." "Also there's the nursing instinct." "It's just neat how thirst is such a motivating drive." "True." "Even the tiniest-brained creatures can figure out how to get a drink." "Soda"

It isn’t quite true. I had a rabbit in a hutch, raised from young to drink from a water bowl. When my Dad installed an inverted water bottle in his hutch, he never learned to drink from it and died of thirst.
