Frazz by Jef Mallett for September 14, 2003
Transcript:
Frazz: You think the country's shrunken; everybody sounds the same? Then order up a soft drink, friends, and broadcast whence you came. There's places call it "soda" others "pop," still others "cold drink." Down South they call it "coke" (and not just Coke, but any old drink). Distill it to its essence and you'll yet remain confused: It's either "empty calories" or "vacant BTUs." boy: May I finish my bubbly sugar water in peace?

Having grown up in the south, I never actually knew that many people to just refer to soda as “coke.” It was usually “soda.”

Here in Australia, the generic term is “soft drink.”

Sung to the tune of “Existential Blues” by Tom “T-Bone” Stankus. Frazz’s last verse even rhymes with it.

Coke down south. NOOOOOOOOOO. More like Co-kola—any old drink. Hardly ever we say Coke. But we might want an orange or grape or 7-up Co-Kola. Even chocolate Co-kola
