This is well timed, with yesterday’s news report that CDs will be obsolete within a year. Children used to call records “big black CDs”; in the near future, they won’t even comprehend the idea of music recordings existing in physical form that you can see and touch! Even today, few have ever heard uncompressed, analogue music…

On a side note, lots of people think blues and jazz music sounds better on old fashioned vacuum tube radios. Since I am mostly deaf, I have no idea.

Simon and Garfunkel wrote beautiful music;best part of the late 60s and early 70s. To all Americans, I wish you a blessed Thanksgiving; may your hearts and minds be filled with peace and goodwill. And may your tummies be filled with lots of turkey and pumpkin pie.

I still have record albums. Kids today would probably not have a clue what I mean by that!

I have their live concert in Central Park double album.I liked the way many LPs would go smoothly from song to song. Especially Santana Abraxas. Floyd’s Wall LP was superior to any other format. Someone stole that one.Still spin the occasional platter

Hmm…what people see in lyrics. Like art there’s no accounting for what touches and moves ya.For me, the song is just about one friend acknowledging and thanking the other for help and comfort during bad times.Paul Simon was quoted in an interview saying that the Silvergirl line was about a girlfriend who was getting a few grey hairs in her hairbrush.

The way I explain it to non-believers is this: CDs are a digital representation of the music; vinyl is the music.
