It also covers his vacation next year, since those things are pure profit for the vendor! The salesman also gets a nice commission out of them, which is why they push them so hard.

Had a PC monitor and it died one month out of warranty. Same thing with a printer. Everything is disposable these days. The replacement ink for a printer can cost more then the cost of the printer so I refill them myself and forgo the warranty.

Just like those Weasel Razors; I used one one time. It was guaranteed not to nick or cut. The warranty didn’t say anything about “ripping.”

There have been a number of times when having an extended warranty was surely worth it to me. And insurance isn’t a ripoff — it can be overpriced, but it’s only worthless if the company won’t honor it if a claim is made. Is your life insurance worthless because you haven’t died yet?

We need to get extended warranties for the kids whose pants always sag.

An extended warranty is 3 lines longer in the $ column usually increasing the price by 50 percent or more.

Learned first hand that “Planned Obsolesence” is calculated exactly and built accordingly. A calculator with a one year warranty will reliably give trouble after 13 months of use causing another purchase. Build something to last 2 years, say it has a one year warranty, and get them to pay extra for an extended warranty of another year. People rarely collect, and the company makes more money on the extended warranty.Building things to last is a thing of the past.

knowing how butter fingered I am with new electronics…. I opted for the insurance for my first cell phone. Darn smartphones cost a bundle! Glad I did. It wasn’t me, it was phone.. covered replacement phone and all repairs/parts/shipping and labour. And free teasing the new customer service guy.

Perfect that the name of the “store” implies Best Buy, where I was offered a $5 policy on $11 headphones.
