Learned first hand that “Planned Obsolesence” is calculated exactly and built accordingly. A calculator with a one year warranty will reliably give trouble after 13 months of use causing another purchase. Build something to last 2 years, say it has a one year warranty, and get them to pay extra for an extended warranty of another year. People rarely collect, and the company makes more money on the extended warranty.Building things to last is a thing of the past.
knowing how butter fingered I am with new electronics…. I opted for the insurance for my first cell phone. Darn smartphones cost a bundle! Glad I did. It wasn’t me, it was phone.. covered replacement phone and all repairs/parts/shipping and labour. And free teasing the new customer service guy.

Just like those Weasel Razors; I used one one time. It was guaranteed not to nick or cut. The warranty didn’t say anything about “ripping.”

An extended warranty is 3 lines longer in the $ column usually increasing the price by 50 percent or more.
