Luann by Greg Evans and Karen Evans for December 28, 2011

Transcript:
Luann: "Look what I got for Christmas, Grandad - a CD/tape player and a new "nine inch nails" CD!"
Grandad: "Very impressive. I got a new hearing aid for Christmas"
Luann: "Wanna hear my present?"
Granded: "Sure. Let me turn off mine"
Hard to believe this, now 17 year old, grew up listening to the same music I did. Luann time is cool. You age so slowly, no wonder their hormones have never kicked in.
The 1994 album from NIN is one of the best albums ever. Rolling Stone put it at #200 on their list of the best albums of all time. Seriously good stuff. So how on Earth did Luann record that “Hey Boy” junk? :/
Luann, you just got much cooler, even if you were just listening to it for one song ;) By time I was in middle/high school, only the “freaks” and the “goths” listened to NIN. Kudos for having an open mind (to Greg and Luann!)
I wasn’t quite old enough to appreciate The Downward Spiral until 2002, and it’s still one of the best f***ing albums ever .
Each generation has its own music—and I don’t like yours.
@Ashburn Stadium— I grew up in Phillies territory in the early 1960’s. When bringing in a relief pitcher was a statement that “Yes, this game is gone already.”
@AshburnStadium If you’re talking about this year’s World Series, that would actually be 29 years. It did take the Cards 24 years to win another World Series, as they didn’t win one until 2006. Of course…it took the Phillies 28 years…1980-2008.
Getting NIN in her life makes Luann a more interesting person— glad she has something other than boys, clothes & school. (Not that I’d wish teen angst & doubts about faith, purpose on any one!). My own prize is a Janis Joplin tape!
It’s time to get Quill and Luann back in the recording studio to do some serious music! NIN should have been a great inspiration to this couple of budding musicians!
“Nine Inch Nails…Feh! You need to listen to some real music, granddaughter. Here, let’s put in my new Johnny Cash CD instead. It’s got this GREAT song on it, called, ‘Hurt’…”
After the “vintage” break, any predictions on where the current Luann storyline will pick up? It’s got to be Tiffany. (But then, I’ve been wrong on everything else I thought was coming.)
@AshburnStadium:Ya now tape players are going the way of the 8 track players( (Yes I remember them being the NEW thing) and the LP records (Whats a LP)?
A spokesman for gocomics.com has reported additional sightings of coaster posts. Site admin Tony B____ from The Cartoonist Studio says coaster is a known troublemaker, and adds that when the troll didn’t like what was going on, he would throw feces.
In other words, unattended bridge business as per usual.
All that music is past my time. When my kids were teens I was only in my late 30s but I insisted they use earphones to listen in the house (did not know about hearing damage 40 years ago but I knew I disliked it).
To me Nine Inch Nails are what you want to use in construction. My old record player still plays my vintage Edison wax recordings. nine inches across, a quarter inch thick, 78 rpm, scratchy as heck. Still sound great.

Play it loud now, wear a hearing aid later. And her MTV t-shirt really puts a date on things.

You’d be lucky if the CD player would last 6 months before it crapped out.

Luann’s still in high school, so in 1994 she’d have been, uh, 1? At least Gramps has some taste in music.

@CC Alexander: everyone needs a vacation now and then. A few days of a retro strip may give Gregg the needed lift for a great strip next year.
