Here it is December and there has been no Wallet family trip down memory lane in honor of Veterans’ Day, no Wallet family get-together for Thanksgiving and no Wallet family walk in the woods to take in the fall colors. I can not help but wonder WHY all of these cherished, traditional strips are suddenly absent this year.
I don’t understand how a new cartoonist could come on board who doesn’t understand the strip he is dealing with. Not only does he ignore the walks in the woods and Thanksgiving get-togethers, but we haven’t seen A. Nonny Moose in a long time either.
Scancarelli was brought in to draw the strip in 1979 and took over the strip in 1986 when Dick Moore died. In fairness he has kept the strip alive but his strength is more in drawing and not as much for the narrative. It seems to me that Scancarelli is more comfortable with the characters that he has developed than the original GA characters.
Hmmm. You’re right. I should have done my homework. Scancarelli did indeed take over the strip in 1986. So the question remains, why did he omit the walks in the woods, etc. this year? Actually, I enjoy this strip and have complimented Jim on many occasions.
Slim has the same stout appearance that Walt has so I guess he indeed is the inheritor of the GA starring role. Phyllis was rather sweet but Clovia has a bit of a hard edge to her.
I seem to recall a walk in the woods last year or the year before that. And there have been Wallet family Thanksgiving gatherings in just the few years since I rediscovered this strip at Go Comics. So this particular artist HAS produced really beautiful walks in the woods, Thanksgiving gatherings and Veterans’ Day walks down memory lane. Why suddenly give all of that up THIS year?

Call me sentimental, but I miss the GA old days.

A new Artist, hardly.
Jim Scancarelli has been drawing this comic for over 25 years of it’s 90+ years history.

And I’d still like to see A. Nonny Moose.

Honestly this strip goes back and forth at times between being my favorite and my least favorite.
