Get Fuzzy by Darby Conley for December 16, 2011
Transcript:
Satchel: Hey, Buck! I'm eating bread! Bucky: Wow, really? Tell me more! Satchel: Uh... I think it's white. Bucky: You're eating white bread?! Man, that be a movie!!! Satchel: Oh, not this thing again. Bucky: Hey, you can call the sequel Bread II-this time... It's toast.

Would you like butter or jam on that?
No, ma’am, just dry white toast.

Is Bucky’s greatest hate that of stating the obvious, or being obvious?

One of these days Bucky will poke Satchel just one time too many….. and then that cat will be toast.

That piece of bread must be stale by now….It’s from 2009!

Satchel, how ‘bout some jam with that bread? How ’bout JAMMING IT DOWN BUCKY’S THROAT?

Bucky’s movie ideas are getting butter all the time…

I guess Bucky gave up with the Fish Kill O Raunt and is going back to the movie business which he is equally as bad!

I adore Get Fuzzy, but I am annoyed and perplexed as to why we keep getting reruns. The fish restaurant and this, I remember reading it in 2009, like it shows on the strip. Want a vacation? Run old strips, and enjoy. This bouncing back and forth is getting tiring though. It’s hard to follow the “Bucky as a spiritual instructor” story line when it is getting broken up so much.

Darby needs to quit LOAFIN" around and write some new stuff. The guy’s baked.

One more…These old strips are getting kind of crusty.

Poor Satchel… One day, Bucky will succeed in changing him… Though, I think it would upset Satchel’s digestive processes to change this aspect of his character… Bread isn’t the same unless you are so engrossed in the joy of eating it that you announce it… “Hey! I have the physical health today to be typing a comment!” (yah, that felt good, I should say that more often…).

Darby Conley is an artist. What if he has health problems, or wants to partially retire?
What if he has other commitments, and can work on this strip only during a certain part of the year?
Or he can only create, to his satisfaction, a certain number of strips per month?
The syndicate would have several choices.
They can fire him, which they don’t want to do, as he’s a lucrative and popular asset.
They can run “Get Fuzzy” only when he creates new strips, which will alienate those who come looking for it and find last Friday’s still posted, to say nothing of those who find it missing in the newspaper.
OR – they can give Darby a contract for whatever he can produce and agree to run old strips (probably of his choice) when there are no new ones.
But NOBODY can make an artist create more work, just because it’s wanted by fans, even fans who pay a whole dollar a month to read it (and 150 other strips.)
What if you were told you’re not allowed to retire, or you have to work 70 hours a week, just because someone else thinks so?

I’d like to see Bucky fall flat on his face a lot more often.

Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!

Like the sequel. Better if it’s “Bucky on Toast”.

Every now and then, cartoonists get vacations just like the rest of us. Would it be better to have no cartoons during those vacations or re-runs? I vote for re-runs.

They should go back and use computers to put this Bucky in all the old Captain America comic books… Be honest, if both versions were on the rack, which comic would you buy?
tegm about 13 years ago
I love how genuinely happy satchel is to tell bucky about it at first XD
