When I was in school, we used to go to IKEA to hang out because it was a pretty cool store, plus their restaurant had free samples a lot. I believe we bought a set of shelves there once.
No IKEA furniture, but today’s strip reminds me of one from long, long ago in which two sailors are on a pier. One has a “lady of the evening” over each shoulder & the other is saying: No, NO… I said bring the OARS!
Yes, lots. Turned a bunch of dark (mahogany?) Billy Book Cases into a Built in wall and a half of shelving in my Living room because it was exactly the right size and shape and matched all the wood work color and almost the texture.Bunch of Lighter colored Billy shelves and office furniture in my office. Bunch of gadgets and stuff in my kitchen and bathrooms. Looking at some of the bedroom things over the last year, but haven’t made up my mind…
Most of it is used as a starting point, with heavy modifications or additions.
Never heard of Ikea before recently, and way too generic for my taste. I have many “carved” pieces from Design Toscano and many things that I found in resale stores. When I moved across the country I brought only very special pieces with me (a 10 piece sectional in the LR, a china cabinet for which I had made a leaded glass center window, a teak desk from Danish brand that was popular in the 60s). I had fun shopping for new and creative pieces. (new bed, frig, washer and dryer were delivered the day after my closing) and I had already taken 2 lawn chairs and 2 bar stools for the kitchen from local stores the day of closing, as well as my Aerobed which I slept on before delivery. I’ve heard Ikea is a pain to assemble; I have a pair of benches with storage that I bought from a grocery/multi store (that is now a Fry’s). As I assembled them alone, I had to improvise using other furniture and cushions (not easy).

Not me. Since moving to Houston, I’ve bought my furniture made to order with my personal specifications.

LOL! Love today’s strip! The coffee on my monitor proves it!
There isn’t an IKEA around here, to my knowledge.
