@bluskies: A few days ago, you were asking about Walt Kellyā€™s Pogo. Itā€™s interesting that Bill Watterson said that Peanuts and Pogo were his two major influences. Here is a quote from Watterson regarding Pogo, in the context of talking about various comic strips:ā€œI think of Pogo, another strip that had tremendous dialogue and fantastic backgroundsā€¦Those strips were just complete worlds that the reader would be sucked into. For a few moments a day we could live in Coconino County; the whole thing was entirely there. The dialogue was part of it, the backgrounds were part of it, the characters were off-beatā€¦ā€

I crack up when I imagine Calvin tussling over a oiuja board with Hobbes, a stuffed tiger, whose front paws he holds as they (he) tries to guide the magic indicator.

Calvin and Hobbes is pretty much the only comic strip worth reading anymore. I like others, but some arenā€™t even worth going out and buying the books. Todayā€™s humor just seemsā€¦ too wasted and politicalā€¦ I mean sometimes c and h was but they did it in a more meaningful way.

My grandmother couldnā€™t lose a game and always when my grandfather won she took the game and threw it into the stove, now we have a central heating and she would not be lucky in burning games!

Nothing like trying to contact demons through the use of one of these boards ā€“ their influence can be seen in Calvin and Hobbesā€™ faces. Let the player beware bigtimeā€¦close the door on them and destroy the board, Calvinā€¦..

The wife had one. The question asked was what was her greatest talent? Great answer ā€“ but it turned out to be false! It eventually also went into the burn barrel. After all, the disclaimer on them says ā€“ for entertainment purposes only.

Youā€™re right, Hobbes does look something like Tammany Tiger in POGO. I still have the scroll proclaiming me a "Real Live Chairman of the Pogo for President Party at the University of Utah in 1951.
