Mayor Gustavo Petro of Bogotá, Colombia, was once an armed rebel fighting to overthrow the country's government! It is estimated that worldwide, there are up to 30 million people still living in slavery! Rubbing boulders! In Chile's remote Atacama desert, large boulders have smooth sides, caused by bouncing against each other during earthquakes over thousands of years!

30 Meg of slaves? Tragic, but that estimate seems a bit high. That’s about the population of Canada. However, in terms of human rights … when the Taxman comes on April 15, I shall feel like one of them !

I have tutored English to several of these ‘indentured servants’ to see their plight first hand. In the restaurant business, a group of 10-15 might be living together, work 12-hr days 6 days a week, and be paid with tips and meals. Years ago it would cost about $15K to be smuggled from China to Canada and into the US. The typical worker would send the money home to their families to offset this debt.
Still, it is not slavery. Yes, it is appalling by our standards; however, by their standards it is an opportunity of a lifetime. This is a typical way that illegal immigration is subsidized in the US.

How come you never hear a peep out of the NAACP, SPLC, and other civil rights groups about the slavery taking place in other countries today instead of going on and on about slavery in America that was done away with over 100 years ago?
