I can’t afford a driver. Have to do my own driving. In fact, I can barely afford the insurance. By the way, just what does this “par-3” got to do with anything?
I did thst once and the ball hugged the grass for about 20 bounces and rolled right up on the green, 1 foot from the cup. Then I three putted – go figure!
Convinced hitting a golf ball wasn’t anywhere near as hard as my husband said it was, I took a whack at it once in a practice room at a Dick’s Sporting Goods several years ago. After missing it a time or two, I finally made contact with the ball . . . and it went everywhere in there but straight! The pros definitely make it look easier than it really is!
Plugger is not just another word for older person. A plugger is someone who has worked hard all his life to make a living and hasn’t had time to learn to play golf.
For an average duffer, a 5 iron should go about 150 yds. A driver on a par 3 would be overkill, unless you are an old pluger who is too stiff from working 40 years to get a fast swing with an iron.

I know almost nothing about golf… but doesn’t one normally tee off with a driver??I don’t ‘get’ this…

A short hole, 4 or 5 is more normal. I used one of those fairway drivers, until we ran out of balls, on my first and last day golfing.

Judging from these comments, golfers and pluggers are like oil and water. They don’t mix. I tend to agree……..

On a long par 3, around 195 yards a driver might be advised.

Why do cartoonists assume that everyone plays golf? I couldn’t tell you the difference beween a putter and a “par 3”.
