The only time we ever had an early dismissal from school was usually because of an fire drill or earthquake drill that involved our parents coming to pick us up.

The only early dismissal I can remember was for a riot in the school. My first intro to tear gas. And all I was doing was my dead, level best to hide on the 3rd floor of the school.

They dismissed us at 10 AM due to snow.I got home at 8:30 that night.
No food, water or Bathroom stops.
Yeah, I was the last stop on a route with rural pickups mostly on roads that got plowed after the Interstates and state highways, so we were dealing with deep snow and massive snow drifts.
