Gasoline Alley has turned into Vaseline Alley! All these new greasy characters have taken over the strip! Come on Jim – bring back our beloved characters especially Walt! Enough of Slim and Clovia for awhile and lets keep Rufus and Joel on an occasional weekend story. Didn’t Clovia have a brother? Wasn’t his name Chip? What ever happened to him? Isn’t he a doctor?
Jim should realize that he is not just the artist and writer of “Gasoline Alley,” he is also the custodian of its legacy. By ignoring Skeezik’s birthday, he is doing a disservice to what is supposed to be the strip’s central storyline. Happy Birthday to Skeezix (wherever you are) from Frank King’s loyal readers.
I guess Jim is having his own domestic squabble and is airing it out in his work. I am disappointed that the traditional birthday strip was skipped again this year as it was back in 2007. That makes it twice in the 90 years since it was celebrated. I also see signs of contempt towards the strip by Jim. He should retire like Dick Locher did on Dick Tracy. The new team there has turned that strip around back to brilliance. Jim we love you but maybe you should take off relax and fiddle your fiddle some place.
This story reminds me more of the hijinks tales of Dick Moores. If true, that means when Arlo and wife get to the organ loft, Rufus and Joel will be “fixing” the organ with a sledgehammer, oblivious of course to the bills coming out of it.
Louis, I’m with you. This is one of the fastest-moving story lines I’ve seen here in ages. Did he rob a bank? With all those small bills it looks more like the main office of a convenience store. Go, Jim!
This strip is like Alley Oop,, old writers and slow paced wityh a max of two panels a day. Shame on me , I have seen 39 go past twice already plus another half of a handful of years , sorry but I have to agree . with others who complain about the slow moving story on some of these strips these days.with only 2 panels a day.

So Skeezix’ birthday, whether on the 9th or the 14th, has been forgotten.
