I have never been partial to manual labor either.

It ’s like a steak. It is not worth eating if well dome. So satisfaction is rare and often bloody.

Well, Calvin, in the case of picking up sticks, the satisfaction is in a smooth-running lawnmower. If you miss picking up a stick, you can bet the lawnmower will find it and KERWHANG!! (usually followed by words that a six-year-old shhouldn’t hear)

Better off picking up sticks than mending a broken lawnmower.

I don’t think you get any satisfaction from a job well done unless you enjoy the job on some level.

From the hints we see here and there of Dad being as much of a rascal as Calvin when he was younger, one wonders what happened to make him such a boring stick-in-the-mud as an adult (most of the time). I prefer the strips where he does funny things to Calvin’s bedtime stories!

Hang in there, Calvin. You might change your mind as you grow older and get paid for a “job well done”!

Calvin should pick up all the rocks in the yard too. If the lawn mower hits a rock-WHAM! On someone’s head or worse.

It’s surprising that Dad isn’t making Calvin mow the lawn.

I think maybe that’s because Dad will get into less trouble regarding child labor laws if he waits one more year until Calvin turns 7 years old instead!

Oh, the joys of home ownership!!!!! Just wait, Calvin . . . someday when you’re all grown up, you can make your son pick up all those pesky sticks instead of you having to do it!
