Big Nate by Lincoln Peirce for February 12, 2012
Transcript:
Knock knock! Who's there? Val. Val Who? Val N. Tyne! Hmmph! Nope. Lame. Yecch. Can I help you find something, young man? Yeah... Do you have any that say, "whenever you decide to dump that loser you're going out with, I'll be around"? "A card for every occasion." HA. There's one o in "loser."

Well, I think Artur is a lot “looser” than Nate, more relaxed, more self-confident…

Lincoln, very nice detailing with the card rack in the background. That must have taken quite a bit of time to draw. Also love the tongue coming out as Nate says “Yecch.” It’s exactly what someone his age would say and do.

I know Nate will do whatever it takes to Jenny to be his girlfriend! Don’t give up!

To Jenny Nate is an annoying little pest. When they grow up (and they won’t in this strip) things could change.
Nice racks, Linc. Cards that is. lol

Comic Minister: “I know Nate will do whatever it takes to Jenny to be his girlfriend! Don’t give up!”
In real life that’s called “stalking.”(A) It never works, and(B) You will get no sympathy from your friends, your family, any other woman (anywhere), or the police.
Suzanne: “When they grow up (and they won’t in this strip) things could change.”
Were they to grow up, Nate would more likely change his mind about Jenny than Jenny change her mind about Nate.

I suppose the Jenny-Artur (we still are left to assume) thing is the target of Nate’s purchase, but here’s irony: neither of that couples’ names are mentioned in this day’s strip, so: it could be, it could actually be that Nate’s intended for this card is another girl (the long-lost Kelly, even?) and the “looser” may refer to someone else (Marcus, e.g…..now THERE’S a pip!).For my money, another splendid example of how Lincoln deftly “works” his audience. Well done! Haw! HAW!!

There was a comic like this a loooooong time ago. Nate goes into the store on mother’s day and says do you have a card that says “all the other kids moms aren’t half the man you are?” They say no are you kidding? He says cards for every occasion yeah right, or something to that effect. Cause you know Marty is divorced.

The name of that shop is incredibly misleading.
