The Tri-State Area, also called Greater New York, is the densest population area in the US, and one of the densest in the world. (That’s densest in terms of people per square mile, and not a comment on the mental facilities of the population.)
With 22M people, it is slightly less populated than Texas, with 25M, and about 2/3 the population of California, with 37M, both spread over much larger areas.
