Some of you seem to think that the character is Spock. It is Dr. McCoy. No pointy ears and only two stripes on the sleeve, indicating Lt. Commander. Spock was a full commander, three stripes. Here is the problem with Brevity. Many of the efforts are just not funny. If it wasn’t for the humor in the :COMMENTS" section I would quit reading it. As it is, I am ready to quit anyway. But then they come out with one that is really funny. Now I have to read for at least another two week. I depend on you commenters to keep the dud days funny.
As a die-hard Trekkie and fan of the original series, I have to point out that yes, this is meant to be Dr. McCoy, but the stripes are wrong. Two stripes is a full Commander, like Spock. One and a half stripes is a Lt. Commander. Kirk, as Captain, had two and a half stripes, with the broken stripe in the middle.
mythreesons: I have only seen Trouble with Tribbles and not read the book, but still got the gag. One can be aware of pop culture without having to spend one’s life on it. Of course, comic strips are also fine literature and deserve attention.
Thanks everyone for standing up for me. Just never cared for science fiction and don’t read books about rape and murder. Also don’t like Jackie Collins and that kind of junk. Love comedies and humor, which is why I read Gocomics.
mythreesons: I agree humor is tough in cold print. I try to keep the emoticons to a minimum simply because not everyone understands them and the main purpose of communication is to be understood.
OK, I understand that is Bones from Star Trek, and I am familiar with movie version of the book, but why does he think he was duped, and why does he say I! after saying he was duped. Sorry, I am completely missing this.

Hmmm…. does this mean he had a crush on Alice Siebold?
Otherwise, was he hoping someone else had secretly written it?

Funny strip, though.

“I didn’t mean to say that the Brevity should be hauling garbage. I meant to say that it should be hauled away AS garbage” ;)

When you have never seen a Star Trek episode nor read The Lovely Bones, this strip is neither funny nor understandable.
