    Hullo all…

First, I want to welcome you all to the December 11th, 2019 _"Cleo and Company", on Sherpa

    http://www.comicssherpa.com/site/feature?uc_comic=cscwy

Where Claude is about to win Clara a thrilling tour of downtown Cleveland…

And then, I’d like to apologise to Dry

I couldn’t get to the comics last night, and I had to rush for an appointment today, so I couldn’t come back.

So I want to offer you a belated wish…

Hoping that you had a very Happy Birthday…

    Sorry I missed it.

I’ll be at the Tiki, of course, since it’s my shift…

And I’ll buy the first round, if anyone will join me in wishing Dry many happy returns!

I have to agree with JvA about Perry looking “polished off.” I’d say he has a pretty good shine on.

As to Clara’s question, if you’re betting, 20 will get you one.

Perry is feeling much better about life than Nathan (ten years in the future).

Claude, always optimistic. Clara and Cleo, realists.

They’re always amusing after you’ve polished off a bottle.

They didn’t see London and they didn’t see France, but they did win a trip to see Claude’s underpants. The evil cat next door is just rolling his eyes.

    Close your eyes.

    Pretend Claude is Bogie.

    Pretend Clara is Ingrid.

    We’ll always have Cleveland.”

(nope – just doesn’t have the same ring to it.

Lots of trouble with the site tonight… couldn’t get on for hours after I left my first comment.

I guess it’s GOT to be something here, cos no one else seems to be having a problem.

My poor little laptop just turned 6… it works fine, except for the keyboard, but that is considered a bit elderly, in computer years.

I’d hate to replace it, though, and discover that it’s just my lousy internet connection, which I can’t change.

And neither makes sense when I can’t reach GoComics on my phone, either… which has nothing to do with my computer or my ISP.

    Sigh…..

Anyway, Dry hasn’t shown up yet… and she usually doesn’t, till late in the day…

Hope she sees our good wishes… though missing the singing is a rather mixed …um… bit of luck/misfortune.

Meanwhile…. I don’t get as much sweepstakes/“You may have already won”/Scratch your lucky number type mail as I used to.

A lot of those scammers have moved on to the internet or to robocalls.

But I remember showing a few of my elderly neighbors how to look for and read the odds hidden away in teeny type on the backs of those letters, usually printed in blue or grey to make them less legible.

For one promotion I pointed out that the fine print said only one grand prize would be available in a year of contests in about 8 different states… with many millions of entries in each.

One friend, then in her late 80’s, used to enter so many contests she got on lists for the kind where you have to send money to enter the “next level”…

$2 here, $5 there… but after I taught her to read the odds, which she’d never noticed, she added up the $200 plus she’d spent on it in the last year and stopped entering.

One day she said she missed it…. she knew it was a scam now, and didn’t want to start again… but she missed thinking it was real.

    I understand….that’s why I buy a lottery ticket.

The odds are terrible… but for a dollar, the dream is worth it.
