If the kids neve age, so how can you kill off the cat? That’s ludicrous and unconsionable. The pet ages and gets sick and the kids have the fountain of youth forever. Rediculous!
I love the way Heart is drawn in the last panel. This is artistry in comics. Not just with her facial expression, but also with her hands. Very nicely done. It says so much without any words. I’m glad I found this strip a few years ago, and I hope it finds a home in more papers!
Why would the receptionist even say that. If they work in a Vet’s office they must have some compasion for animals and understand the attachment between a pet and its owner. I understand its a joke but still.
The tone of the strip the last 2 days has changed from the somber tone of last week. IS that a reason for hope? Sure hope so, because otherwise it strikes me as not funny after the heart-wrenching setup! (I’ve never had the misfortune to deal with any vet staff that weren’t compassionate under the circumstances and I have dealt with a number of vet practices over the years.)

Been there… Hate it when the staff is callous and not compassionate

Looks like Heart’s going to have to explain to him. Owch, this is going to be bad for both of them…

A light moment following several really depressing strips. Hope blooms.

Ouch! The staff person seems polite enough, but how is a kid supposed to know the word “Euthanasia”? The comic relief is needed, though.

If they put him to sleep i will never read this strip again. I read comics to feel better not worse.

The human characters have not changed in age. The cat is actually 13..why has he aged in real time?
fanofspock1 about 13 years ago
The kids don’t die neither can the cat!!!! You are not a nice person to kill off the cat.

What if there were a mix-up with another cat named Spook?

Well, his namesake lived after all, so maybe the kitty Spock will as well. I hope.

This strip is closer to real life than most— we know this situation will never happen in “Garfield,” or “Heathcliff.”

Wow. When I had to have my Cinder euthanized, the attendant cried almost as much as I did. This one seems rather cold.
gargoyles_9999 about 13 years ago
don’t worry Dean, you just have to get spock to the Genesis planet and pick him up good as new.

A joke about mistaking euthanasia for a cat breed? Yeah, Spock’s definitely gonna live.
