Iran may end up learning the same lesson taught to Iraq. Don’t boast and brag about something (even if it is true which in Saddam’s case it wasn’t), because we can’t take the chance if there is no evidence you are lying.
Better some hell now than extinction later. Did the world not learn anything from passively standing by too long while Hitler advanced against neighboring countries? The best way to control weeds is to pluck them right when they appear before they get deep roots.

For your edification a very brief time line & stat on 20th & 21st century U.S. war involvement & results:
The last two wars the U.S. out-rightly won were led by Democratic Presidents Wilson (WWI), Roosevelt, & Truman (WWII). Since then: Korean War – A U.N. action with multiple Nations contributing forces & headed by the U.S under Dem. Pres. (DP) Truman and ended in a truce under Repub. Pres. (RP) Eisenhower; Viet Nam (VN) an undeclared War – Troops committed early 1950’s under Eisenhower, increased in 1962-3 under Kennedy, greatly expanded in 1965 under DP Johnson with 6 other S. Pacific Nations providing logistical support and/or combat troops, Withdrawal started in 1970 under RP Nixon with his 1969-1972 Vietnamization Policy under the Nixon Doctrine. Total withdrawal Was completed in 1973 under RP Ford. The U.S. had supported S. VN who was then defeated 2 yrs. later by N. VM; Golf War I- Aug 1990 to Feb 23, 1991. The U.S. led a coalition force consisting of 33 other Nations under RP H.W. Bush. Despite a Decisive Coalition Victory that war ended in a Cease Fire; War in Afghanistan – 2001 to present. Started under RP GW Bush with a coalition of forces consisting of the United Kingdom, Australian, and the Afghan United Front. The War continues under DP Obama (2008) who has laid out plans for & started the withdrawal of U.S. troops; Iraq War II – Mar 2003 to Dec 2011. This started with a U.S. led coalition force, on paper, of 49 Nations under RP GW Bush, by Dec of 03 coalition forces numbered 33, by 2009, 6 and by 1010, 1. Withdrawal of combat troops started in 2010 under DP Obama and was completed on Dec 2011. 4-5 thousand embassy personal remain and 4000 combat troop in Kuwait until May 2012.
You do the add but I do not see where either Republican or Democratic Administrations lacked the will to stand up for America; what they have lacked is good intelligence and/or Secretaries of Defense w/o a personal agenda and themselves w/o personal agenda’s that led to ill-conceived self-fulfilling prophecies and/or better military advisers.
