It could be someone getting signatures to get a candidate on the ballot, Girl Scout cookies seller (although door-to-door is discouraged) or someone asking for directions. As for arl, maybe he has arthritis or chronic fatigue syndrome.

I think Muffin learned how to jump up and press the doorbell. She’s a cartoon cat after all :)
