Half crazy for Daisy…

Reminds me of another “Liō” comic where Liō’s bathing in a giant housefly’s soup. The fly (with a speech balloon) calls out the waiter. Thus is the second “Liō” where I’ve seen speech balloons.

no, but one odd thing i saw there was a sony u-matic video cartridge recorder (they mere used mostly at tv stations back in the ’70’s and provided the basis for sony’s betamax home units)

Good old HAL 9000, always a step ahead of IBM (snerk), in more ways than one. I wonder if Lio is planning a space mission?

If I had enough money to buy those computers, I’d probably buy something else.

OK, guys, here’s the clue you need to understand “2001: A Space Odyssey”…

The famous orchestral fanfare is the opening of Richard Strauss’ tone poem “Also Sprach Zarathustra” (Thus Spake Zarathustra) which was inspired by the same-titled writing of the German philosopher Frederick Nietzsche. In it Nietzsche rejects God and conventional morality and foretells the future appearance of an “Uebermensch” (translatable as “Superman” with unfortunate later connotations) who will be as far advanced over humans as humans are over apes.

So there you have it. The three sections of the movie: early man, humans in space, and finally the Star Child hovering over the earth. The main non-Nietzschian element is the idea of an extra-terrestrial intelligence guiding man’s evolution.

What do you get?

2001 – that would make the computer 11 years old. OBSOLETE, Lio!

That film has become so much a part of the culture that I was surprised; I could actually ‘hear’ the voice of HAL in my mind as I read the strip…

Good ol’ Hal was made in my hometown of Urbana, Illinois, home of the U. of I.

That cool movie about the future takes place eleven years ago.

What do you think he’s going to do with that?

HALs last line makes it sound like HAL is afraid of being taken by Lio.
