I know so many Seniors who have nothing but SS to live on. We were fine until congress decided to come up with “programs” and “borrowed” the $ from SS. Oh, yes, they said it would be paid back. Yeah, right! I paid into SS for 30+ years. I earned it, I deserve it!

I think it’s time to get a reputable auditing firm to go over all the transactions of SS from the beginning to now to determine what happened to it that it is in such poor shape. And if they find any illegal transactions, have the culprits arrested, prosecuted and sent to jail like any ceo that pilfered their company’s pension fund and make full restitution of the money stolen.

You and most of the rest of us, Dusty. The Bush government diverted lots of SS money to something else, but SS is still not broke. It’s solvent for another 30 years or so, and there are ways to be more efficient that don’t include not doing it’s job as a pension security to keep older Americans from having to live in poorhouses. They will need to build massive amounts of poor house that will result from cutting social safety nets. When welfare was eliminated, some said “there will be millions who will live in poverty.” well they did get rid of it and now millions of Americans DO live in poverty. Politicians have NO compassion for anyone who aren’[t as fortunitte as they are.
