Cats can eat dog food but not the other way around. As if Garfield would ever let that happen

My dog when she got to be about 12 or 14 yr old and lost all her teeth we would serve her and our cat 9-Lives pâté canned food. It was soft and easy for them both to eat. After about 9 months Mutt-C would ‘meow’ instead of bark. I guess after 98 years ( 7 dog years X 14 people years = 98 ) she could be expected to be confused.

I’ve never known a dog to leave food of any kind. They’d rather eat and be ill than leave any.

Gee Clark, just what I needed to go with my morning doughnut. An image I did not need.

Dogs and cats can and do eat each others food. I’ve seen a dog and a cat share the food. It’s amazing that they didn’t fight over it. Dogs will eat anything, but cats are usually fussy about their food. It depends on the environment they live in if a cat will eat the dog’s food.

Sure, dogs will eat cat food, but it will make them obese in the long run. (Cats have more energy-intensive nutrition requirements than dogs — never mind that they sleep most of the day! — and their food is “overload” for dogs.) If a dog is old, ill, or needs to gain weight, cat food would be a good idea. :].And that old saw about one dog (or cat, for that matter) year equals seven human years? Nope — cats and dogs mature much faster than humans, and spend much more of their lives as adults. (A one-year-old cat or dog is a young adult, not the equivalent of a seven-year-old human child.).You get a better feel for where your dog or cat is at this way: the first year = 20 human years, and each year after = 4 human years. It’s more mental math, but this way a 14-year-old dog isn’t the same as a 98-year-old human (rare), but a 72-year-old human (elderly, but not at all unusual…and hopefully with some good years left!)..Sympathies to folks who have bulldogs, or really large dog breeds…their lifespans are usually much shorter. They need a different thumb to make a rule out of.

When my Cat sees dog food in my Dog’s dish she tries to cover it up like she would her litter, very funny.
