I think “that” started when Charles Schulz had Charlie Brown and Franklin (who obviously “warn’t white!”) meet back in a late ’60’s Peanuts strip……you know, “back in the USA, back in the bad old days”…….a lot of us were there.

Schulz executed what was simply a friendlyfirst meeting (Franklin was bringing back Charlie Brown’s runaway beachball at a public beach (post-segregation standards, obviously) in what was a very innocent, just-us-kids-getting-to-be-us storyline that ran about a week. When I was a kid we would get ice cream after the game, but only if we WON. But hey, we wouldn’t want anyone to feel badly so now win or lose EVERYONE gets a treat because EVERYONE is special and in the words of Syndrome, “when everyone is special, NO ONE WILL BE!!”
