Rat: Look at all this e-mail. I've got hundreds I haven't even read. Goat: How do you respond to all those? Rat: Well, one little shortcut I've learned is to first click the 'select all' feature. Goat: Then what? Rat: It's a big time-saver. [Delete]
It works okay, except when it doesnāt. Tricky thing, those e-mails; but they are obsolescent, as social networking and texting are replacing them as the favored means of quick communication.
Most of it is junk mail anyways. Letās be honest, how many of us have a dozen or so pages of unread e-mails because most of it is junk mail that didnāt end up in our spam box? Probably 20% of my inbox I read, the other 80% is junk mail. And it gathers for a few months until I finally clean it out.
If you guys are getting junk mail, youāre doing something wrong (or misclassifying what junk mail is. Itās not junk mail if you signed up to get it!) Seriously. I get none. Zero. If filters donāt clear it out, then itās time for a new email address. When you get a new one, only give it out to things you need! I get my bills by email for example. And my stock reports. If you want to get other stuff, get ANOTHER email address. I have no social networking and nothing will ever replace email for me, either (in the foreseeable future). I seriously donāt ever want my bills to be on any social network site. There are communications that I do not EVER wish the entirety of humankind to read. The NSA is fine, though.
Good for Rat. Iāve the same frame of mind.. Iāve had the same eMail address for 16 years and got my share of SPAM, but at least at this age, I know how to handle it. My idjit friends and relatives who think I canāt live without the latest fwd;fwd;fwd;fwd;fwd donāt know it, but theyāve been āfilteredā and wind up in SPAM sandwiches. Result: peaceful day.Facebook, sexting, texting and other natterings is too much a time-waster, especially getting dozens of eMails telling me that somebody said something to/about somebody I know on Facebook. I must look into this mystery.. Maybe if I āUnfriendedā myselfā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦.
Gee, I thought I was one of the few who refuses to do Facebook and the like! Glad to know Iām not! :-)
And Iām getting fed up with it more and more, ālike us on Facebookā. āGet on our Facebook page for free couponsā, etc. I look for the Sunday newspaper coupon inserts to all disappear because everything will be on Facebook. If that happens, guess I wonāt be saving much money anymore.
Number 6, I have had my Spam for the Year, you know, thanks to you in the first place. It really isnāt good for you. Are you trying to tempt me into developing high cholesterol? :-D
orinoco, I have an M.A. in Interpersonal Communication. (and Communication in an Organization). Iām amazed at how you can get to āknowā people in forums like this. (This is my only one, Hey, Iām retired, I donāt have the time!) But seriously, it is interesting how well you can get to know someone, even if you donāt know who they are. That wasnāt covered in my studies back in the eightiesā¦.
