Marguerite had a little run-in with the police over on Ballard St, trying to fetch our 200 gallon tank of brain bleach. Not sure whether they’ll let her go tonight… Leaky is in no shape to drive that far to bail her out and I can’t exactly show my face….But don’t worry, Crustwoodians!I’m here!(Not exactly comforting, is it….)
Burl, the quintessential blockhead, is wearing the perfect shirt!
“I Block”… the view.“I Block”… as in “I Robot” or “I Claudius…”“I Block”…. every action, plan or idea that passes near me.You did buy your coats a ticket, didn’t you, Burl?Cos you wouldn’t deny a ticket-holder the last seat in the stadium otherwise…. right?I’m actually surprised they can walk up the stairs to those seats, themselves.Maybe it’s one of those 2-story gyms with a door into the bleachers on the upper floor.
Afficionado… no, you make two.But where are Mikie, Dazz, Dave, MissScarlet, Finale, Shirl, Grog and ALL the rest? I’m trying to save, like, 15 seats at the Crustwood Coffee Club all by myself!(and if I didn’t name you it doesn’t mean we don’t miss you!)
I love the strip today. I see these people all the time, mostly older women. Full disclosure: There is a senior independent living facility close by; primarily women because most of the men are dead!I would sooo sit down on top of the coats and purses. Then try to f**t! (Failing a recurrence of dysentery.)Congratulations to you, Susan.
I’m late because I slept lateAnd I agree that posting “first” always seemed pointless, even for those who are (I’ve never been). I spent big money yesterday on heat reducing film for my main S windows (one E and 1 W too).
When a game is that crowded it is best to just stand….That way… when the action gets heated.. you are already standing…! ! ! Worked for me for many years at “old” Soldier Field…. ! ! ! .Cannot find the dog bone….. ? ? ?.Doen’t the basket seem much too low… ? ? ?.BTW…. Nice job going first today Sunshine….! ! !
The overwhelming urge to run up and throw their lousy belongings on the floor and take the seat! What incredible gall! Would love to knock the bejeezuz out of both of them!
Sorry I am late today, extra busy at work, we are short handed and I didn’t get to here until afternoon. Thanks for saving me the seat, Susan. Tell you what, how about if you spend the rest of the game telling me what I missed so far. I am sure the people around us will want to hear it too.
vldazzle… where I live the whole town goes to HS sports. Mostly football, but basketball also.
And they all have used various seat-saving techniques over the years… Blankets duct-taped to the bleachers are popular for football games, coats and masking tape for events in the auditorium, like the prom grand march coming up in a few weeks!
I hate making lists of names cos somebody will always show up saying “But what about _me?”_
So I just wanted you all to know that I just took a quick look at the day before and used most of those names…no favoritism implied.A different day, a different list… but all are welcome at the Crustwood Coffee Club….thanks for coming. And thanks GymShoe.Oh, and Dazz, since you seemed interested, I’ll save you a pint of brain bleach when Marg gets back with it.It’s on me.
Julie Larson lives in Illinois, and much of Crustwood action takes place in Illinois. She lives only about 50 miles from the University of Illinois at ChampaignUrbana, and the student rooting section there is called the “Block I,” and that was probably the inspiration for today’s comic. Their rather pathetic football team was able to generate the block I pictured below from the equally talented Block I student section. Hopefully the team had less to drink.
“Block I is the Illinois student cheering section for football and part of Illini Pride, the official student support group of Illinois’ 19 varsity sports. Located at the 40-yard line, Block I offers students the best seats in Memorial Stadium. Block I tickets include membership in Illini Pride and all of the benefits the organization has to offer. Block I members receive a Block I t-shirt, attend a season-opening barbeque kick-off party, take part in exclusive give-aways, watch parties, pep rallies, and have the chance to go on an all-expense paid Block I road trip. Block I members create new traditions while embracing old ones. Since 1926, Block I has been the visual staple among Memorial Stadium traditions with the performance of card stunts by its members during the game.”
Thanks, Susan for the BB. I try to avoid all medication (no longer even use Sudafed, prefering to use lots of tissues for my allergies). I go as natural as possible. In fact, I know that many people are turning on their AC as our temps are over 100 for a few days, but I think I will simply lower my core temp shortly before bedtime by taking a dip in the pool (which usually remains at whatever the low nightime temp is). As the indoor temp will gradually drop and I can control it with “chimney effect” (windows and doors), it is very good for me. I am still glad to be installing that fairly new 3M product on the windows that are most impacted by radiant light
@Aces, my dad attended Champaign/Urbana and my 2nd son attended Carbondale (SIU) and graduated cum laude in finance but I attended nothing except his graduation (was a big fan of both boys in HS gymnastics as well as younger bro in wrestling)

I love how their butts are hanging slightly over the outside of the frame (is there a word for that line around the comic?)

Thaanks for saving the seat, Susan I usually work during the day so I’m hopefully sleeping during the midnight hour.
Maybe you want to shove those coats down Burl’s throat.

I was trying to think who they would have in HS (Timmy is too young and Patty is too old).
