Dinosaur: At his passing, your uncle had no estate and no assets and a net worth of zero. However, in a billion years he should be worth at least $100... a barrel.
and you’ll have some prime waterfront property along the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico, Prince William Sound, Alaska, Tobago, West Indies, Saldanha Bay, South Africa….so on and so on..
“Now that I think about it, crude was around before dinosaurs. Look at all the fossils they have found at the La Brea tarpits in southern California.”Your time scale is skewed . . . the animals found in the La Brea tar pits are all Pliocene/Pleistocene, so, only from about 100,000 to 10,000 years ago. The dinosaurs lived from about 200 million years to 65 million years ago.As @malpot and @hippogriff mentioned, most fossil fuel is plant-based, and most comes from (pre-dinosaur) 350 million to 200 million years ago. There was an enormous amount of dead vegetation lying around in those ancient eras, mostly because few large animals had yet evolved to eat it!
Idmff: The Rancho la Brea formation is so recent that humans were already in existence then – but hadn’t walked and/or paddled over to that hemisphere yet. Or else had barely arrived and contributed to the extinction of the species found there.
