it must have been the introduction of snoopy wearing his dish on his head otherwise it wouldnât be enough of a gag, it would have been something heâd already done
âLiâl Folksâ was an earlier strip with characters who couldâve come from âPeanuts.â
Schulz wanted to call this strip âGood Olâ Charlie Brownâ when United Feature Syndicate picked it up in October 1950, but UFS didnât want the stripâs title to focus on one character so they made the choice to call it âPeanuts.â Schulz didnât like the name, true, but he was a struggling cartoonist at the time and was willing to live with it because, well. a manâs gotta eat.
That would have been rather difficult, since laptops didnât exist in 1965, when this strip was first run. Nope, thatâs an old-fashioned suitcase, from long before they invented luggage on wheels.
âCalvin talking like a professorââYes indeed! especially in the comics running this week over in Calvin and Hobbes, with Calvin spouting off knowledgeably about segmentation in the magazine market!
âLil Folksâ was the first title of the strip, then âGood Olâ Charlie Brown.â It was renamed when somebody mentioned the similarity of the title to an idea somebody else had. There were the same characters in both. âPeanutsâ was chosen by the syndicate to get attention from the readers. I think somebody thought the name would refer to the size of the characters, most of whom were children. The dog dish became a symbol of when Snoopy was being a traveler, like to summer camp or to the spelling bee.

Love your pillbox hat Snoopy. Did Jacqueline Kennedy copy that from you?

Love the comic. Hate the flashing header â I always have to scroll down enough that the header is out of the window to read the comic.
