Iâve been trying to find more information on the âRemainsâ picture. It doesnât match accounts of Komarovâs death, some of which which state that he was cremated before the services and some of which state that nothing large was found. And I just canât imagine an open-casket service for any badly-burned pilot. There is a book called âStarman,â allegedly about Komarovâs Soyuz 1 flight, but itâs been debunked for various reasons.
As a minor point, Komarov was not the first man to make a second flight into space. That was Gus Grissom (Liberty Bell 7, July 1961; Gemini 3, March 1965). (If you mean two orbital flights, Gordon Cooper made his first orbital flight aboard Faith 7 in May 1963 and his second aboard Gemini 5 in August 1965.)
Golly gosh, all you folks are assuming itâs a pony girl! Just because of the high heels and stockings? And because we donât see any boy bits doesnât mean theyâre not there. Anyway, she/he seems to be in search of greener pastures than what FA has to offerâŠ.
The RIA Novosti site, visualrian.ru, has numerous pictures of Komarovâs funeral, yet despite the pictures Novosti attribution it doesnât appear on this site. Kamininâs diaries on the astronautix.com site claim that what was left of Komarovâs body was cremated immediately after the autopsy, making it even less likely that the picture is genuine (and frankly, it would take a strong stomach to stand in the presence of a reshly-charred cadaver).
The âStarmanâ book is said to depend heavily on Russayevâs testimony. However no one is quite certain who he is; thereâs no evidence that he worked for the KGB or that he was a friend of Yuri Gagarin. Also, people who knew Komarov dispute the claim that he was screaming and cursing as the Soyuz crashed.
The Russians have released some other grim and genuine pictures of space disasters (the Soyuz 11 accident and a massive launch-pad fire) but I donât recall seeing this one.
The mane thing is to pony up to the bar and join the other neighsayers with no where to horse around, and explain to the bartender why you have a long face . . . . . â»
