The sales commissions, marketing expenses, and management costs must be paid. The stock must maintain a great profit to earnings (P/E) ratio and pay glorious dividends at the blowout stockholders meanings. Nobody sees material costs, process, Quality assurance, or handling anyway. That production stuff adds a couple of percent to the cost.
Solution!! Have the government take over the pharm industry. Then we’ll all have, if not totally free, at least very inexpensive drugs. I’m shocked that the anti-capitalists commenting here have’nt already pushed for that. Shocked! However, in their defense, I suppose it’s easier to crab about a situation without understanding it or considering a way to change it.
Extremely interesting that there is a story in the Canadian news about a potential cure for cancer being found in a drug that already exists and is very cheap to produce but big pharma companies have no interest in testing/researching it because it won’t make any money. The news story is almost identical to this story arc…
