To protect our bird feeder from squirrels, my Dad once hung it from the end of a long tree branch by a long thin wire, figuring the squirrels wouldn’t be able to climb to it. But he was wrong, a squirrel managed to inch its way down the wire and reach the feeder. However, the weight of the squirrel caused the feeder to spin around on the wire and the squirrel’s tail, which was braced against the wire to support him, got entangled in it and he was stuck. My Dad ended up taking the feeder off the branch and laying it on the ground (along with the still-attached, hysterical squirrel) and left the squirrel alone. When he came back, the squirrel was gone—except for a couple of inches of his tail which was still stuck in the wire attached to the bird feeder!

A ‘bird’ to the wise is sufficient!

I like squirrels much more than birds. I’m a pilot, no squirrel has ever brought an aircraft down by being ingested into the engines.
