That is one savvy unicorn…

I like how Marigold looks like something from a medieval painting of a unicorn and not a horse with a horn.

Looks like there’s a little bit of Seuss influence.

One thing for sure, this strip definitely has good punch lines!

Didn’t think somebody with a middle name of Danger would be so cheap as to wear a $7.99 hat… (Also one of the few times I actually like political humor.)

So her name’s Phoebe Grizelda something-or-other.

If she hasn’t changed the original concept too much, then yes, but we’ll have to wait for the unicorn to do the introductions. And I’m getting a sense that we’ll have to wait until the unicorn just “feels like it”

I do like how the unicorn doesn’t even bother with physical exertion to drink her tea. I also love the little price tag. Does it say “In This Style” on the back?

According to my book on unicorns (I never outgrew my fascination with them) they have a body of a horse, a tail like a lion’s, cloven hooves – all these check out with Marigold. The only thing missing is the beard of a goat, but I can see that it would not be so asthetically pleasing. Just as happy is was left out – and by the accuracy of everything else, I expect that was intended.

The closing joke in the last panel is Epic Fail for several reasons:(1) The Patriot Act is American legislation and even then only a small number of Americans even care about. As a result, the reference will leave many Americans and most non-Americans scratching their head wondering, “what is Patriot Act?”(2) The Patriot Act gave US Homeland Security more power to follow and track suspected terrorists. Therefore, the reference could imply the monochrome unicorn is a member of Homeland Security and that the unicorn thinks the girl is a threat.(3) Why is it necessary to put a political commentary into a comic strip about a girl and Her Little Pony? (oops, couldn’t resist)

A better closing joke would have been for the unicorn to say something like: “Can you say ‘Google’?”

Question for Dana Simpson. Does this comic strip draw any inspiration from Calvin and Hobbes? Phoebe sounds really similar to Calvin and Hobbes sounds really similar to Marigold. It follows along the same theme. Talking tigers aren’t supposed to exist and unicorns aren’t supposed to exist either.

I hope she’s not …because Hobbs is reasonably sane and Calvin is just a plain old psychopath torturing his poor parents and anyone in his radar. This strip is just starting…so I’m taking a wait and see attitude; besides its cute and beautifully drawn.
