Reminds me of the 10 year-old wearing a t-shirt with “It wasn’t me” printed on it. Never make a defence or apology before you be accused.

Danae’s not destructive enough yet for this sign to matter. Lazy enough for a different sign and always trying for the easy way out, but not destructive.

Accountability gets in the way of job creators.Sad anthem for a classification of individuals who do not create jobs, but are the victims of a hostile and repressive system that holds them back from a Utopian world.See Danae.

Granted, I have not lived in every state in the union, but in all those I have lived in teachers had such heavy continuing education requirements that they never had a summer “off.” One of my high school teachers was so grateful one summer that she had enough education classes that she could actually take a subject course, it was almost scary. Oh, and they pay for those (college) courses out of those salaries. Priced college lately?

Citations, please. BLS? NCS? Or do you buy into the Heritage Foundation’s or AEI’s tweaked data? Yeah, non-administrative teachers work 190 or so days a year, but if you think their workday begins and ends with the school bell, you might want to ask a teacher or do some research.

I don’t think every teacher has such a sweet deal. I have a few teachers in my family and they don’t get paid so well, continue their training over summers, and often end up paying for class materials out of pocket because the funding has run out. Besides that, teachers are no longer expected to just “teach” anymore. They’re often stuck “raising” children, which isn’t what they’re trained for. Children with mental disabilities, children from abusive homes, children who can’t speak English, children with behavioral problems, children with special needs, growing class sizes, shrinking budgets, etc. etc. – teachers have to juggle all these things while being scrutinized and criticized by parents who somehow think the teacher should be catering to their child more than the others. And again, many teachers do NOT make $50-70,000 a year. Don’t get me wrong, there’s plenty of teachers out there who have no business being in a classroom, but if you really want to find out where the majority of the financial bloat is in the education systems you’ll have to go further up the chain of command.

Also, how do you feel that teachers are a contributor to the sorry state of our educational system? I’m honestly curious . . . My understanding is that teachers have very little say as to what goes on in the school systems and are usually so busy trying to teach to the d*mn test (so funding doesn’t get pulled) that they don’t have time left for much else.

That’s strange, I saw this strip sitting in my office, getting ready to go out into the world, wearing my sandwich board that says,"It"s all Danae’s fault, so don’t look at me in that tone of voice!" VoojaDanae!

I usually stay off the political rant, but I have to say BluePumpkin has the right of it. Not to mention the living in fear of lawsuits from litigous parents who believe their little darlings are geniuses that can do no wrong. The primary causes of the degradation of the education system are the bleeding heart politically correct liberals (It’s unfair that Billy can’t pass just because he didn’t do any home work, can’t read, and doesn’t do exams well…), followed closely by parents that want results but no responisbility.

In some areas it’s not cool to pay attention in class or keep up with the subject matter, and there’s very little shame in flunking….Students have to actually participate in the learning process. When they don’t the system breaks down. You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink…..Too many times that’s happens in the poorest areas…It’s frustrating…

@Sharuniboy – not sure why the personal attack was warranted, but as a matter of fact I come from a teaching family. My father was a teacher for 35+ years, my mother and sister were/are special needs TAs, another sister is currently a librarian and teacher and I was a private instructor as well as being a very involved parent with the education of my four children. We have all discussed this issue numerous times so I would say I am very well qualified to state my PERSONAL opinion on the matter. Sorry if it pains you that someone may disagree with your worldview. It happens sometimes.
