Kate: So you think just having that sign absolves you of any personal responsibility? Danae: Yes! Kate: Uh... how so? Danae: 'Cuz if it's OK for a business to do it, then I can do it, too! Kate: Heads up, Daddy... Danae is acting like an adult again. Joe: Sigh....

Adults have been acting like Danae for a while now, so fairâs fair I sayâŠâŠ.

Either way itâs time for our sweetie to incorporateâŠâŠ.

Love the imagery in the fourth pane. I can just see him shaking his head.

Itâs funny how the words âHeads upâ so often have the opposite effect.

D.A. canât help it that he has chosen the wrong side to play for. The Dark Side has an attraction for whiny losers.

The airlines have been getting away with this forever: âWe are not responsible if our employees rob you blind.â

More like âwin the lottery, sue a company with big pocketsâ. Which you couldnât do, sue a company I mean, if a corporation werenât a âpersonâ for legal purposes, by the way. Those disclaimers were all over the place long before Citizens UnitedâŠnot that they actually absolve a company of legal responsibility, but they might bluff a person into thinking twice before filing a frivolous lawsuit.
demorodney almost 13 years ago
Iâd say sheâs THINKING like an adult, but still believing like a child. Only a child would be naive enough to believe the disclaimer is legally binding.

When politicians talk about corporations as people, I just say, âShow me the birth certificate!â

Danae has a promising future with BP or Hailiburton.

Many business people believe that if they explicitly disavow responsibility for some possible incident they will be legally absolved. It doesnât work that way. Take for example the âYou Break It, You Buy Itâ signs in some shops. If you accidentally (key word here) brush against an open display breaking an item, the loss is the shopkeeperâs, not yours. Itâs because the shopkeeper knowingly placed the items in a hazard (indeed, the âYou Break It, You Buy Itâ sign can be used as a proof that the shopkeeper knew there was a hazard.) To expect a customer to pay in this instance may be construed as entrapment. `To put it concisely, liability is something for civil courts to decide, not businesses.

Well played, Wiley. There are many businesses that are honest stewards of our welfareâŠbut they are sadly being replaced by greedy liars at an alarming rate. Many citizens are influenced by this amorality to become the same themselves, especially our young. What will destroy this great nation is the moral sickness growing within it.

Texas? The Mormons werenât run out of Texas â it was Missouri, among other places. Sheesh! If youâre trying to present facts, you should do a little checking.
Oh, sorry. âFactsâ snicker
DavidLena almost 13 years ago
If individuals had a sense of personal responsibility, instead of a sense of entitlement, businesses wouldnât need those disclaimers.

Looks like DA got flagged â Iâd be curious to know what he said. Could somebody tell me (in a polite way)?
hippogriff almost 13 years ago
When something like DA gets deleted, could those commenting on it also delete theirs? I have no idea what DA said (and doubt I missed anything), but a retort to nothing doesnât have much meaning either.

@Hippogriff: Good point. Done. He was just spewing ignorant anti-Semitic and anti-mormon ignorance.

I do like this come-back. May I borrow it for future reference?
hippogriff almost 13 years ago
Trusted Mechanic: I am hardly saying donât reply â I may guilty of a lot of things, but double standard isnât one. If the outrage stands, by all means reply; but if it is removed, related comments should be too â they have served their purpose in context, but are baffling when the context is removed.
