My older brother and I were at our parents’ wedding… the one where widowed Dad married our twice divorced stepmother; we were also the witnesses at the altar.
My professional take on the “purple” cloud….I’m pretty sure that it is the trailing train of her dress billowing up behind the bride…. Notice the “sparkles” at the edge. This is all the person who colored the comic fault. He or she interpreted just what it was meant to represent, wrong.
Elizabeth’s reaction makes me giggle relentlessly … it’s cute, and adorable, and I can remember one night being angry my womb donor and her husband were having popcorn and my sister and I would ‘have to eat it cold in the morning’… and yelled out “WE NEVER GET TO HAVE HOT POPCORN! IT’S NOT FAIR!” they ate all of it, and left us with none. :( I learned it’s better to have cold popcorn than none. :D
Our little grandson wasn’t quite 2 and he was present at his parents wedding. It was my daughter and and our son-in-law’s wedding. We planted morals in our kids hearts but they didn’t quite stick.
I understand Lizzie’s question because I remember, as a child, being shocked that anything happened before I was born. As far as I was concerned, the world started that day.
I think the purple mass in the first panel is supposed to be indicative of grandma (or auntie, or whoever the white-haired woman is there by John is supposed to be!) wearing a slightly overdone dress…in my experience, there is ALWAYS somebody like that at a wedding, but I guess by now it’s traditonal!lol

John was smart and avoided the discussion of the birds and the bees.

Both of my kids have asked at one point or another, why they are not in any of the wedding photos.

He should have simply told her the truth & said they weren’t born yet. & what is that purple cloud?

When our children were small they never asked a question like that. The woman must be wearing a massive purple dress. Only thing I can think of.

I think he means his mother (whom he doesn’t like) and his stepfather (whom he doesn’t like, either).

she wishes I was dead, so I don’t call her my mother. She’s Lynn or my ‘womb donor’.

My husband told our son that he was there, “as a twinkle in his mom’s eye.”
