Transcript:
Rat: What are you reading, Goat? Goat: 'Of Mice and Men'... It's the story of two friends one is short and crafty and the other is an over-size fellow with mental challenges. Rat: Do we get royalties for this? Goat: No. Pig: I'm famous! I'm famous!!
If this comic was compared to a book, I would have thought The Wizard of Oz; Rat needs a heart, Zebra needs courage, Pig needs a brain, Bob needs a brain, Larry needs a brain, Burt needs a brain…
easy pig, your shout is breaking the panels. don’t want to fall out of your box and crush garfield or cathy. actually it’s okay if you crush cathy.
Oh,Pig! You are not famous, not in the way that you think! And yet you are like Lennie. I just hope no one here seeking more bang for his buck would put you down….
Actually it’s the estate of John Steinbeck that should be getting royalties from Pastis.
Anyway, Pastis is hardly the first to copy the short crafty friend/big dumb friend characters. It’s been done many times in cartoons (Ren and Stimpy, anyone?).
Peabody, ne7minder, yeah, Pig might want to check out the ending first before he gets all excited….BTW, if you haven’t read Totilla Flat, Cannery Row and it’s sequel, Sweet Tuesday, treat yourself to some funny stories, written by a master who could write about common folks with gentle compassion…

Tell me about the rabbits, Rat.

Shouldn’t the book be called “Of Mice and Hogs”?

Sounds like the book of the year.

I remember in The Grapes of Wrath, Tom’s uncle ate a whole pig in one sitting. So Pig should be careful around Steinbeck characters.
Peabody-Martini almost 13 years ago
They should at least find out how the book ends first.

A couple of months ago I saw “Of Mice and Men” done as an opera. It was interesting. The composer, Carlisle Floyd, was there.

Creepy @#%&*! book. If Steinbeck wasn’t clinically depressed, he sure passed it on a lot.

I think that Pig and Rat are more like Lenny and Squiggy than Lennie and George.
