Man 1: I wonder if it's a good thing or a bad thing that my surgeon is a lousy golfer. It could mean he's so focused on his job, he doesn't play much. Or it could mean he's uncoordinated and clumsy. Man 2: When are you scheduled for your surgery? Man 1: Maybe never.

Physician is one of the few careers which doesn’t appear to having any sort of rating system beyond pass/fail. At least, one that is publicly acknowledged. Even lawyers have a rating system.

But an otherwise mediocre physician who oversees the PAs and nurses in a for-profit emergency clinic may never be sued. It seems that physicians are loathe to publicly grading their colleagues. But then again I suspect that most patient would prefer to remain blissfully ignorant than to actually know that their doctor was a C student in medical school and could barely pass the board exams.

There are various outside sources that rate physicians. I googled a Dr. of mine, then based on that and other factors, switched Drs. I like my current one. I am by no means lithe, and my former Dr suggested dancing to lose weight. Once he started dancing around the exam room (by himself) I figured it was time to find a new Dr. I also lost weight the old fashioned way, diet and working out at a gym.
