Thatâs it Calvin, put off enjoying the present while you wait to live for the future. Or, as a friend of mine (shocked? Yes, I have some) says: âMany people put off living until they can finally afford all the things only a young person can enjoy.â
In our choir there are people, who are more qualified and others who are not, but we work together, and each one does this, what he could best and gives his best and together we are a GENIUS!! The better ones help the others and this one who are not so good try to do their best and this works!!
I think itâs so cute that Calvinâs parents encourage him to believe that his stuffed tiger is real. âAsk Hobbes if we can put it on the coffee table.â Sheâs saying it so sweetly to him because she thinks sheâs giving him a compliment. Cute!
@Susan Newman: Today is an example of Calvinâs mom being a good parent. She thinks that Calvin made the tiger, and she is encouraging him. In the second panel, it looks like she may be showing affection by putting her hand on his back or his shoulder.
Here is an early Peanuts strip, back when Charlie Brown was about six years old and Lucy was age four or younger.Click here: Peanuts: September 8, 1953
Itâs unlikely that Calvinâs clay was orange-colored, but when Hobbes says the name of his sculpture, we picture it as being orange and black. One of the advantages of the strip being black-and-white.
Calvinâs schemes and endeavors often encounter âpockets of resistanceâ. Mom has two of them. One is commending Hobbes âdopeyâ clay tiger. The other is "eww"ing Calvinâs shrunken headsâ mouths shut.
P.S. itâs always interesting to see how the furniture is decked out in Calvinâs house â the sofa today is spotted humma, hummaâŠ..did the cartoonistâs parents house look like this?

Hobbes had better cool it with the flaunting and braggadocio!âPride goes before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.â

@Hobbes,Now we know how Lucy became a mudslinger, among other things. Itâs all Charley Brownâs fault!

Hobbes might as well make it a set of seven clay tigers. He can add Sneezy, Happy, Bashful, Grumpy, Sleepy, and Doc!
