Coming Soon đ At the beginning of April, youâll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
You must care for others and for yourself too, when you lie down, you canât help very much others. But you must not care too much in yourself it must be place enough for others!
Calvinâs âMe-ismâ is closely related to another self absorbed trait â Narcissism. Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is a personality disorder in which the individual is described as being excessively preoccupied with issues of personal adequacy, power, prestige and vanity. (Props to Wiki.) Yes, I have spoken of this before.
Calvin sounds like Lucy today. Here are two examples. (You can tell that the second one is a later Peanuts strip because Lucy isnât wearing a dress, and because the panels are taller.)Click here: Peanuts (May 19, 1970)Click here: Peanuts (October 5, 1988)
A 6 year old girl once said this to me on my bus. âSally keeps pretending that she isnât jealous of me.âI was laughing so hard, I had to bite my lip.
@WytZox1: Yes. Here is the transcript from his 1979 Saturday Night Live monologue:Well, the âmeâ decade is almost over, and good riddance, and far as Iâm concerned. The â70s were simply 10 years of people thinking of nothing but themselves. No wonder we were unable to get together and solve any of the many serious problems facing our nation. Oh sure, some people did do some positive things in the â70s, like jogging, but always for the wrong reasons, for their own selfish, personal benefit.Well, I believe the â80s are gonna have to be different. I think that people are going to stop thinking about themselves, and start thinking about me, Al Franken.Thatâs right. I believe weâre entering what I like to call the Al Franken Decade. Oh, for me, Al Franken, the â80s will be pretty much the same as the â70s. Iâll still be thinking of me, Al Franken. But for you, youâll be thinking more about how things affect me, Al Franken. When you see a news report, youâll be thinking, âI wonder what Al Franken thinks about this thing?â, âI wonder how this inflation thing is hurting Al Franken?â And you women will be thinking, âWhat can I wear that will please Al Franken?â, or âWhat can I not wear?âYou know, I know a lot of you out there are thinking, âWhy Al Franken?â Well, because I thought of it, and Iâm on TV, so Iâve already gotten the jump on you. So, I say letâs leave behind the fragmented, selfish â70s, and go into the â80s with a unity and purpose.Thatâs what I think. Iâm Al Franken.
Millions upon million of people DID focus on you, Calvin! Then your creator decided to drop your strip. Now all we get is reruns. I guess Watterson couldnât handle the notoriety.

I quite agree with what Ambrose Bierce had said â Egotist n. A person of low taste, more interested in himself than in me.
