Yes, Bob knows that his contract with Sam & Ella’s Road Kill Café is due for renewal but the prospects seem rather flat. But then that’s life food in the fast lane.
OMG, Beviek — I hate to sound like the jerk here… and it’s sad, but keeping a skunk you find… or even approaching it in the first place, really isn’t a good idea. For one thing, a “friendly” wild animal is often rabid, and you can’t tell by looking.I know it was just a baby…. but that doesn’t make it safe. It should have been taken immediately to a shelter and quarantined till it could be determined.Skunks DO make sweet pets…. but unfortunately, owning them is illegal in most states…. so that one probably wouldn’t have been given back. The reason usually given is the prevalence of rabies in skunks and the fact that there’s no vaccine that works in them. And keeping ANY wild animal is illegal in almost every state.
My friends who had a skunk in Wisconsin had to give it away when they moved to another state…. and it was legal in both places…but to cross state lines they needed a permit that showed it was bred and sold by a licensed skunk breeder….and it was a foundling. Not that I agree with these laws…. but if you own an illegal animal it’s heartbreaking when the vet turns you in or Fish and Game knocks on your door.I know people with ferrets…. also illegal in California….cute little guys, but a real pain to hide. And of course, they also have no rabies vaccine…. and they DO have a slight tendency to eat the canary and the hamster when you’re not looking.
X_tech!that’s for the heads up on doubling (and tripling!) the “big” attribute.I didn’t know till I played with it after your post (“yesterday”) that you could nest them to multiply the effect. Cool.
Thanks again everybody for all the "f"s, I posted late yesterday about it, if you gave me some and didn’t see my thanks. Now I can be officially “offishul.”
And thanks Bev…. ladies’ night was just what I needed…hope you saw my late post to you, Monkey, saying I was going to Beviek’s.
Ballard Street is about the only place on this site that stays open late.Of course, that does tend to make me sleepy in the morning.
Wow…. it’s Whimsical Wednesday already.I miss some of the festivities this time of year cos of working at the farmer’s market….but I found the most wonderfully whimsical outfit….should I try to wear it on the street for a while before I leave for work ….or save it for the campaign trail?
Good Morning to all my friends and acquaintances on Ballard Street! Late start today – one of the perks of quasi-retirement.BTW, to those who haven’t noticed, Prof danglais is back complaining about everyone who uses the comments in a way that he/she feels is too personal. I’m sure the Prof. must really hate Ballard Street residents, Frog applausers, and Doonesbury dogmatics. LOL
… but Bob will ponder that question later… after he goes to the Ballard Street Lost & Found and turns in this nice leather aviator helmet he just found on the side of the road … kinda smallish, must have been part of a doll collection or… wait…. was that a laughing moose he just saw driving by slowly… in a ’55 Nash…. ?
You didn’t flatten that squirrel roadkill, did you?? I mean, since we don’t have any kangaroos on Ballard St. and all…You’re not THERoadkill Tally-er , are you? Here on Ballard St.? With all the dogs and cats, monkeys and cows, chickens, squirrels, peacocks, pigs and pugs (ohm’gosh! Look out, BatPug!!!) and tie-dyed poodles we’ve got roaming around?
Current Inventory at the BS L&F (temper rarely lokated in the yurt behind teh BS Library & Smoke Shoppe):1. Cowbell, nice tone, no mfg marks2. 7" Red sparkly spikey high rise dress shoo, new smell, size 73. Old leather navigaiter helmut, no gogguls… initials RJS…4. 1 mason jar full of used an’ worn out “f’s”…… maybe b’longed to Ms Suzy (?)
I got to thinking…we should have at least one kangaroo here on Ballard St., even though it could be dangerous with the Roadkill Tally-er here now, so extra vigilance may be called for.
Bob can clearly recall, the day Tuffy the Squirrel made his reputation; and now Bob ponders how Tuffy will be remembered. Will the record show he grew into a man, nurturing his family, protected the community, and prevailed through lives challenges. Will history see his mocking tail switching his adversaries into submission. Will he be remembered for his high energy, quick on his feet and nimble of mind. Will people say, he lived by his will and his wit or only remember Tuffy crushed, discarded, forgotten. Bob is glad he is out of the game, Shirley is making potato soup and the Star Trek marathon starts in an hour.
Gonna hed over to Ms Stels then Suzy’s… promised I wood pitch in an do sum chores…. after all they done fer me… its teh least I can do…. (Oh, Mrs Bev, I know you don’t like others messin’ wit yer house chores so I baked a banana creem pye… it’s on yer back portch… hope ya lyke it!!!)
Monkey – Oh — some of those f’s might still have some life in ‘em.I s’pose I should pick them up and see whether they’re mine.
I was going to post this afternoon that if any Tikis were needed for the Tiki Bar you could get a deal from Dogsniff, cos he carves them….Nice, huh?Haven’t had a chance, but I’ll post some other pics soon….Have faith Dogsniff! But nice job posting — I knew you could!
I have to go off to work soon but I want to spend a little time here first in my Whimsical Wednesday outfit….
Stel….. The roo is nice but wouldn’t it be cool if you wore the banana again?Linguist , I don’t recall you removing a Davy Crockett get-up at MY place….
Oh - and thank you again, X — next time I run out of any letters, I’ll call you first!
I should have known to do that THIS time… you always come through for me!
I think most people never run out, but I’m pretty verbose. You get a lot of e’s and a’s and t’s when you buy a keyboard… …..and S’s (good thing if you’re gonna keep typing “SusanSunshine.”)
z’s and k’s and such are in shorter supply. So are x’s, actually….so if you ever need any of those…
Oh, BTW… uh Suzy… wile I wuz scrubbin yer kitchun flurs, I found a OLD timey bar of soap under th’ sink…. I aint never seen any soap lak this a’for….. wuz you savin this fer, um…, can I use it? (it smells REAL gud!!!)
Oh my goodness… I really miss the pictures and some of the commenters on this little ramble through old times on Ballard Street.
Many of those posts would make a lot more sense, had GoComics not removed all the images and links…
and if the contributions from several now-banned or self-exiled Ballard Street denizens, including Beviek and Dogsniff, were still part of the conversation.
You can still post pictures and links at https://cleoandcompany.net/
