Quiet here today. Anyone remember (those of us who grew up mostly in the 70’s might) when homes were fitted with intercoms? We never had them, but I knew some people whose homes had little boxes and buttons by half the doors and one by the front door. They were probably useless and vain, but I recalled them the other day when my wife called me on the cell phone from downstairs to see what our dinner plans were.
Never lived in a house with an intercom. I think the closest was someone from when I was in high school who was considered “well off” – had an intercom at their front door. .Mom would have liked an intercom. Everytime she ever yelled “where are you?” Dad or I (or both) would just yell back “HERE!” .Having gone to the Western Final and the the Grey Cup – and not sitting with the friends, we were all scattered throughout the stadium (ya git yer seats where you can) – Texting by smartphone came in real handy.
We had a trailer house in about ‘73 with one. A mobile home with 2 bedrooms and maybe 20×60’. The only purpose it served was when my brothers and I were playing astronauts or such.

My in-laws still have and use an intercom system. They are older, but it cracks me up anyway.

My daughter who is 47 still uses one to get her teenagers down from their rooms.

I’ve lived in a house with an intercom. It never worked properly, and the radio function was just horrid.
I currently live where we have no cell service, so we use the old standby, yelling.
