Some cultures, the father gives a dowry and others the groom gives the father a brides price.

Didn’t Gene (their son) build the boat? How did his father in law get ownership?

You can sleep on your boat but you can’t sail your house (except in a flood plain)

The cost of buying the boat is NOTHING compared to the money it will take maintain it..

Oh, they’re getting the boat, not sure what hits and misses will take place to twist the plot, but the boat is changing owners. It has to, the end game is set and now the trip there is all that remains. The boat is an integral part of the finale.

I’d be glad to give you The Far Side. If I had to limit myself to two or three comics, A&J would be one of them.

Gus owns it and Gene did some repairs and really put some work into it. Gene slept there while working for Gus at the Restaurant Gus owns right in front of where the boat is tied up. Gene is finishing up credits for his college degree and so the boat is for sale as Gus no longer wants the boat. I hope Arlo buys it, when he cant make it down, Gene and his family can take it out and also help keep a eye on it when its not in use. Maybe even have their honeymoon on it. When they retire A & J have a home there and Ludwig will like all the birds and enjoy the many fish bits he is sure to be sneaked.Until the retirement though, with Genes family close by, Arlo and Janis wont have to stay with them when they come to visit, they can stay in their own home.

“You can sleep on your boat but you can’t sail your house (except in a flood plain)”

For years I drove a 3/4 or 1 ton PU with a pretty big slide-in camper.

People used to give ne a red a….give me a bad time about the 10-11 MPG.

    “Not bad for a house…..” I said.

There were some similarities with a boat except that I could drive it to work.

Not sure what the exact analog is, but it was clear that a boat is a hole in the water into which you dump all the money you can get your hands on.
