When I turned 21 my mom made me a “Harvey Wallbanger” cake. It was good. My favorite is pineapple upside-down cake.

Technically it’s not cake really, since it has no flour—it’s a dark chocolate bete noir.

I’m guessing he’s crossing Cake Boss with Sweet Genius. Sweet Genius has my favorite Food Network host in Ron Ben-Isreal. He was pretty scary in season one, but they changed the show a lot for season two to make him more “personable.” He was better before, but it’s still a fun show.

I have made many special occaision cakes of many tiered layers (My fav easy recipe was yellow cake with a filling of 1/2 raspberry & apricot jams over a crumb coat of buttercream and iced and decorated w buttercream and a mix of almond paste for some sculptural things.

I just watched last nights Housewives of OC- some uninvited guest at a formal party tore a piece off the icing bow on top the (very elaborate) cake and just ate it very early in the party. When confronted she was indignant and said she “has a sugar problem” and was indignant that anyone was upset. I think that might be expected of an 8 y-o, but don’t all grown people know better? Noone better mess with my cakes at a party. Anyone who has seen Cake Boss or similar knows how much goes into that!

Back when my husband and I could still eat sugar I made a great angel food cake. Just follow the Betty Crocker recipe, but fold in chopped marachino cherries last thing before putting it in the pan.
