Yes, those were the conservative (right wing) primarily Southern Democrats that were all for “States Rights”. After the Democratic Party began support for the minority civil rights platform in 1948, the knuckle-draggers formed their own party, the Dixiecrats. They didn’t do too well. They went back to the Democrats for a while, forming their own racist powerful Southern Bloc that the Liberal Democrats did their best to marginalize, until the Republicans came up with the Southern Strategy to get the former conservative, racist Democrats to come to the Republican Party. The Democratic Party is now staunchly Liberal or Moderate, while the Republican Party is now full of the lunatic fringe Teabag hat-wearing Party, segregationists, and are actively getting rid of their saner, more moderate Republicans. I use satire and a dash of hyperbole, but all of my assertions are based in fact, and that is apparently intolerable to creatures of your ilk. The Repuglicans used race-baiting to their advantage in the southern states, that’s a fact. The Dems got rid of their racists, when are the Republicans going to do the same to theirs?
I was going to say I was able to read panel 2 after several years of comparing the English and Spanish versions of “Baldo”, but after reading the above comments, I’ve decided not to.
There are racists all over the fringes of both parties. But it is the Dems who chop up the population into competing groups — racial, ethnic, sexual, economic. Moderate Republicans? They’re just Dems Lite. The Tea Party — advocating limited government, reduced taxation, and adherence to the Constitution — is the hope of the Repubs, and there’s nothing racist about that.
Google translate says Rudy’s line in panel 3 is ’Wait a minute, b i t c h." Are you allowed to curse in comics in foreign language, or it that a bad translation.
