@ PortzebieYep. And he has the respect and admiration of REAL musicians, songwriters, and performers from all age groups and musical generes. It’s time to lay this tired “Barry Manilow Sux” thing to rest.

    Agree w/nearsighted.

I’m not a huge fan of pop and Broadway, but I recognize the talent it takes to write a great song. Manilow has written standards that will be played for decades to come. Easy to sing, easy to listen to, easy to improvise on.

I saw him at the Hollywood Bowl for the Independence Day concert, and he put on a great show. He had some amazing bits, and the sold-out audience of 18,000 loved the performance. The folks in the group I came with were talking about it for days.

There is nothing so good that everyone likes it, and nothing so bad that someone doesn’t like it. Not a Manilow fan, but I recognize his talent and understand why many people are. Like Graham Parker said, “I can’t see the point but I see the attraction.” Similar deal with Neil Diamond; not a fan , but if given tickets, I would go see him; he puts on a great show. Lacking that, I would be willing to see Super Diamond instead.
