That sums it up perfectly. Some of the happiest moments of my life were exactly this sort of situation…Waking up to see your lover sleeping next to you, moonlight splashed across her hair…Ah well, the hermit life is good too.
You’re missing the point. Janis snores. Arlo tries to stop her by jarring her. It works for a moment. Janis snores LOUDER. Been there, got the t-shirt.
My former used to wake herself up with her snoring. Then she’d take a pill and sleep so deeply she couldn’t hear or feel the house shaking with her snoring. Since we had separate bedrooms (because of her snoring), it wasn’t a real issue until we’d try to travel together. On more than one occasion, the hotel staff had to chase me out of the lounge area in the lobby at 6AM.
See… my take is different on this. I think Janus was asleep, and the “Plop” represents Luddie jumping on the bed. Cats can be very “heavy” in their landing even if they are relatively small (Luddie seems like a bigger, rangier cat). The heavy landing of Luddie jarred Janus awake, annoyed her a bit, but then she quickly went back to sleep.
Meg: Nudging helps, but if you are that awake, try imitating the snores. It ultimately works. When all else fails, you might try taping it like Herb (& Jamaal) did a few years ago; he got a hit novelty record out of it.
@ Pipe Tobacco… Some folks do creative writing. I think you’re into creative reading! ;) would NEVER have come up with the cat being a part of the strip. Have had cats jump on me in the middle of the night…Takes a while to breathe normally again and decide or not if it’s worth an ER visit. hahaha

Nah, I’m with Orion on this. The fourth panel said it all. This read like flash-fiction.
(Most famous six-word flash-fiction ever written was by Hemingway)

I thought Arlo is the one snoring and when he stopped it woke her up.

Maybe those little dust clouds in frame 2 make her snore louder?

She is sleeping lightly, hence the small zzzzz….but when Arlo throws his arm around her, now she can really sleep deeply, hence the ZZZZZZZZ’s!!

When my late husband snored, I would just stick in some earplugs. Miss him sooooo much.

.after the first surprizing moment, that is a reassuring feeling.
