I consider 40 the turning point. HOWEVER…
Since we’re all experiencing the thickening of the middle as we trek through middle age, it makes sense that the period KNOWN as ‘Middle Age’ is thickening as well.
It appears to be stretching in BOTH directions!

Well, I’ve long considered my life up to 20 to have been squandered on useless thrashings, so if I live to 90-100 (like my older ancestors), I’ll hit “mid-life” at about 55-60.

Well, given the life expectancy of the average American male, middle age is roughly 37.5 years. Anything past that is downhill; enjoy the ride. And I say that as an AARP candidate (who won’t go near them with the proverbial 10’ pole; but that’s another story altogether).
